Amit Shah to reach Mumbai to resolve seat-sharing deadlock
Mumbai, Sep 24 (IBNS): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah will visit Mumbai on Wednesday in view of resolving the ongoing seat-sharing stalemate with its long-time ally Shiv Sena ahead of the crucial Maharashtra Assembly polls scheduled next month, reports said.
Shah is expected to reach Mumbai on Wednesday evening to hold meetings with state BJP leaders on the alliance issue.
According to sources, the Sena offered 130 seats to the BJP and 7 seats to other allies. Under the new proposal, the Sena has kept 151 out of the 288 seats for itself.
The tug-of-war between the two allies was going on for few weeks with each party demanding a formidable portion of seats to contest and the other quashing it.
The BJP-Shiv Sena alliance almost reached a “make or break” point amid hectic parleys to save the grand-alliance. In past weeks, the two parties failed to arrive at a seat-sharing agreement despite long backroom consultations in both the political camps.
The parties now have only three days left to resolve seat-sharing differences. Nominations have to be filed by September 27 and voting will be held on October 15.
