Arvind Kejriwal reaches Dadri village to meet victim's famil
Dadri , Uttar Pradesh, Oct 3 (IBNS) Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal reached Dadri village on Saturday morning to meet the family of Mohammad Ikhlaq, who was lynched by a mob allegedly over rumours that he had eaten beef.
Reports said he is accompanied by Aam Aadmi Party leaders Sanjay Singh Kumar Vishwas.
Earlier in the morning, a group of villagers led by women drove out media and other visitors, including AAP volunteers, from the village.
50-year-old Mohammad Ikhlaq was beaten to death by a mob in Dadri on the outskirts of Delhi on Monday night. He and his 22-year-old son were dragged from their house by about 200 people and beaten with bricks. Ikhlaq's son is critical.
The incident sent a shockwave across the country as the opposition parties blamed the saffron family of contributing to building up tension and spreading communal hatred.
The incident also reportedly prompted the panicked people of the Muslim community living in the area to leave the place.
On Friday, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader Owaisi met the family of Mohammad Ikhlaq and hit out at the Samajwadi Party government for "investigating a piece of meat and treating the victim as accused".
The Centre has, meanwhile, sought a detailed report from the Uttar Pradesh government on the incident.
The police are investigating who started the rumour.
