Lucknow, Feb 11 (IBNS): The first-phase of the staggered polling scheduled for Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections began on Saturday, with Muzaffarngar recording the highest polling of 15 per cent by nine in the morning, according to media reports.
In the first of the seven-phase schedule, polling is taking place in 73 of the state’s 403 assembly constituencies, spread across 15 districts in the western part of the state.
Faulty electronic voting machines led to delay in some booths, media reported.
The Samajwadi Party, led by Akhilesh Yadav, is fighting the polls in alliance with the Congress party.
