Bihar CM says he paid bribe, embarrasses Nitish
Patna, Aug 14 (IBNS) Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Manjhi on Wednesday said he had to pay a bribe of Rs 5000/- to settle with the service provider after an inflated Rs 25,000/ electricity bill problem, holding that even his mentor and former CM Nitish Kumar could not bring down corruption in his regime despite developmental work.
Speaking at a function he said: "Nitish Kumar did a lot of developmental work but even he failed to bring down corruption. If you pay the babus [officials] from top to bottom your work is done."
He said the state faces a huge problem in the form of corruption.
Manjhi is the man appointed by Nitish Kumar as the CM.
The remarks came at a time when Nitish Kumar is taking on the BJP by allying with his former foe Lalu Yadav ahead of the by-polls this month.
BJP hit back immediately.
BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain said if the CM is saying so, one can understand the scale of corruption and what goes in the name of good governance.
