BJP likely to be asked to form Government in Delhi
New Delhi, Sep 5 (IBNS): The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is expected to be invited to form the government in Delhi which has been under President's rule since February this year, reports said. The party should be allowed to prove its majority on the floor of the Assembly.
Lieutenant governor Najeeb Jung has reportedly sought approval from President Pranab Mukherjee to welcome the single largest party. Accordingly the President is also believed to have forwarded the recommendation to the Union Home Ministry, sources said.
With 29 legislators, BJP had emerged as the single largest party in the Delhi Assembly elections in December last year throwing up a fractured verdict with no party achieving the required majority to form the government.
Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which came second, had formed the government with support from the Congress but resigned onFebruary 14 after 49 days in power. The AAP government had stepped down after failing to push their pet anti-corruption Jan Lokpal Bill.
