BJP to decide on extending support to Mehbooba Mufti as J & K CM
Srinagar, Jan 8 (IBNS) A day after the People's Democratic Party (PDP) unanimously elected Mehbooba Mufti as next Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir succeeding Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, partner Bharaitya Janata Party (BJP) will decide on Friday on extending support to her.
Reports said BJP General Secretary Ram Madhav will visit Srinagar on Friday to ensure smooth transistion of power in the state.
BJP has said that it will go with ally PDP's choice for the post of the Chief Minister. "It is for PDP to decide who will be their leader," BJP vice president and its Jammu and Kashmir in-charge Avinash Rai Khanna said when asked about his party's stand on Mehbooba succeeding her father.
"Our alliance is with PDP," Rai added, indicating it was the senior ally's prerogative to choose the leader for the top job.
The decision was made hours after CM Mufti Mohammad Sayeed died on Thursday at Delhi's All India Medical Institute of Medical Sciences. The 79-year-old was suffering from sepsis, low blood counts and pneumonia.
56-year-old Mehbooba, who is the PDP's president, is the daughter of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
