Children, teachers, guardians join to celebrate 15th Foundation Day of Madurdaha Satyavritti Vidyalaya
Kolkata, July 17 (IBNS): Some things happen suddenly and then take form when you least expect it. Thats how it all happened with Mrs. Nalini Mukherji while she was in her early morning walk through the village of Madurdaha .
In a casual interaction with the children of the village, she was thrown a question about why she couldn’t teach them. Thus an idea germinated which took serious shape.
Out of that idea was born an initiative with the local population to try to improve the condition of the mostly uneducated daily wage workers and their families. In time the initiative strengthened and in 1994, Dakshini Prayash came into being and was registered as a society under the West Bengal Societies Act.
As the education wing of Dakshini Prayash , Madurdaha Satyavritti Vidyalaya (MSV) was established. For almost one and half decades, Dakshini Prayash has sincerely strived to uplift the socially and economically marginalised people and their wards through education facilities, health care and efforts at self reliance.
Now, Madurdaha Satyavritti Vidyalaya celebrated its 15th Foundation Day at 9A, Ho Chi Minh Sarani, Kolkata- 700071,ICCR, on 16th July (Sunday) from 11a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Anubhuti Prakash who took over the reins from Mukherji , ‘Dakshini Prayash’ emphasised that the larger objective has always been to catalyse and nurture the indomitable spirit amongst children of a lesser privileged section of society. The aim was to enable them to overcome the shackles of economic poverty and grow up accomplished, healthy and self-assured members of the society. “As I see our children at Dakshini Prayash perform to a citywide audience in this 15th Foundation Day, tears of joy fill me up as we realize an earnest wish I had when we started; a wish to help our children develop and excel, at par with other children across the city” she stated.”
The programme was graced by Maestro Bickram Ghosh (eminent table player and exponent of indo-fusion music).

Craig L. Hall (Consul General, Consulate General of USA) was present at this occasion.
The celebration programme featured a presentation by the children called Splendour of nature (Prakriti Vaibhav) focussing on need to save our nature and planet.

At MSV, at present there are about 400 students, 26 teaching and about 6 non-teaching staff. The society has classes from playhouse to Class VIII under the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education curriculum. Students are provided free tuition, books and reading materials, uniform, and midday meals. Apart from academics, due attention is given to the children’s health by way of providing nourishing meals and special supplements.
The school gets the children’s health checked and monitored on a regular basis by experts, and the health records of the children are meticulously maintained and each student has a health card. Equal emphasis is provided on extracurricular activities like athletics, sports, art, craft, dramatics, excursions, specialised coaching, etc.

MSV seeks to develop the children into healthy, happy and responsible citizens of the world by providing them Holistic Quality Education and is gradually creating a benchmark in such a service to the society. The organisation has volunteer programs for those wishing to offer their services to such a noble endeavour.
