Curfew lifted in Kashmir after 52 days
Srinagar, Aug 29 (IBNS) The marathon curfew that left Kashmir almost crippled for 52 days, was lifted on Mondaymorning, except in Pulwama district, reports said.
The entire valley remained under a blanket curfew that was declared to curb violent protests since the killing of Hizbul terrorist Burhan Wani last month.
According to reports, restrictions under Section 144 Cr P C will, however, continued to be in force prohibiting unlawful assembly of 10 or more people.
During the 52 day period since the July 8 encounter of Burhan Wani, about 70 people have died and over 11,000 have been injured in clashes between protesters and security forces.
In his radio address, 'Mann Ki Baat', Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday spoke about unity and compassion as the keys to ushering peace in the valley.
Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti who also met the Prime Minister in Delhi on Saturday said while addressing the protesters, "I may have got angry with you and you may be angry with me, but give me a chance".
Mufti discussed a 'three-point plan' with PM Modi, which reportedly included a two-way dialogue through eminent interlocutors from outside of government, and talks with separatists.
