ED urges apex court not to release attached Maran property in Aircel-Maxis case
New Delhi, Feb 3 (IBNS): Properties of Dayanidhi Maran and his brother Kalanithi, attached in Aircel-Maxis deal case should not be released, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has urged the Supreme Court, according to media reports on Friday.
A special court on Thursday discharged former Union Telecom minister Dayanaidhi Maran, his brother Kalanithi Maran and all others accused in the Aircel-Maxis case, reports said.
Kalanithi Maran-owned Sun Television Network's (Sun TV's) stock price spiked 26 per cent to Rs 694, also its lifetime high, on the National Stock Exchange in early morning trade on Friday, reported Business Standard.
The Central Bureau of Investigation and the ED had alleged Dayanidhi Maran, as Minister in the UPA-I government, used his influence to help Malaysian businessman T.A. Ananda Krishnan buy Aircel by coercing its owner Sivasankaran to part with his stake.
The court was to frame charges against Dayanidhi and Kalanithi but found no ground to proceed against them and the rest of the accused.
The court also gave a clean chit to Sun Direct TV (P) Ltd and South Asia Entertainment Holdings Limited, Mauritius, reported The Indian Express.
