Five killed in Andhra Pradesh rail mishap
Hyderabad, Aug 24 (IBNS): At least five people, including a Congress legislator, were killed when a truck rammed into Bangalore-Nanded Express at Anantapur district in Andhra Pradesh on Monday.
The Congress legislator was identified as Karnataka MLA Venkatesh Naik, reports said.
The incident occurred at around 2.10 am.
According to reports, the collision with the truck derailed four coaches of the train.
The mishap has affected train movement in the region.
Rescue officials and the police have reached the spot.
Rescue operation is currently going on.
"Unfortunate accident.Loaded truck hit train.Condolences to families.Immediate medical relief sent.Injured treated.Ordered GM etc to rush," Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu tweeted.
"Ex gratia will be given to affected injured and dead," he said.
The Ministry of Railways tweeted: "Sheer negligence of lorry driver, who broke the LC gate & then crashed into the train, caused loss of lives including one Rly personnel."
