Heart attack patient kept waiting in Kolkata awaiting Mamata's convoy
Howrah, Dec 24 (IBNS) A heart attack patient was left waiting in a traffic jam on the expressway on Wednesday as the police allegedly held up the ambulance for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's convoy, reports said.
Mamata was scheduled to return from Digha in East Midnapore and police weren't even sure if she would fly back or come by road. The irony is that the Chief Minister finally took a helicopter.
For 20 minutes, Meherjan Begum, who was being taken to SSKM hospital lay gasping for breath while her kin kept repeatedly pleaded with police, It was only when senior officers learnt of her plight that the ambulance was allowed to go.
Meherjan, 50, has been admitted in the cardiology department of the hospital in a critical condition, reports quoted one of her relatives as saying. A doctor said she has complete heart blockage but her condition is stable.
