Hurriyat shutdown in Kashmir over Modi visit
Srinagar, July 4 (IBNS) Kashmir Friday observed a shutdown on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's maiden visit to the Valley after taking over as the PM.
According to reports, restrictions were imposed in some areas of summer capital Srinagar to thwart any untoward incident
Shops, educational institutions, public transport and other businesses remained closed in Srinagar and other major towns of the Valley in response to the separatist call.
"Restrictions have been imposed in five police station areas of Khanyar, Rainawari, Nowhatta, M.R. Gunj and Safa Kadal today (Friday)
to maintain law and order in the city," a police official said.
Senior separatist leaders including Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, Muhammad have been placed under house arrest in Srinagar.
Prime Minister Modi earlier reached winter capital Jammu where he inaugurated the 25 km long rail link between Katra, the base town of Mata Vaishnoo Devi Shrine, and Udhampur town.
Later in day he will reach Srinagar Badam-i-Bagh Army Headquarter where he will address the Army.
Modi will also inaugurate the 240 megawatt hydro-electric power project in the border town of Uri in north Kashmir.
