IAF looks to break rigid trend, to commission women pilots
New Delhi, Dec 5 (IBNS) The Indian Air Force (IAF), which had announced their plan of including women fighter pilot earlier this year, is now all set to put the plan into action by implementing them for five years on an experimental basis from June 2016, according to reports.
Rao Inderjit Singh, minister of state for defence told Lok Sabha on Friday, "Government has accorded approval to entry of women into the fighter stream of IAF on experimental basis for a period of five years."
Though there are women in the IAF, they mostly take up administrative and nursing jobs. The new move will see them fight alongside their male counterparts.
