India celebrates the festival of colour, Holi
Kolkata, Mar 24 (IBNS) Citizens of India on Thursday, celebrated the festival of colour, Holi, to usher in spring.
Apart from the mere celebrations, Holi also has a religious side to it.
As the legend goes, Prahlada, a devotee of Lord Vishnu, was tricked into sitting on a pyre by her aunt Holika.
While the fire burnt her, Prahlada was safe, enraging her father, the demon king Hiranyakashipu, who smashed a pillar from which Lord Vishnu's Narashimha avatar emerged and after an ensuing battle, killed the demon.
It is believed that people smeared others with the ashes from the pyre and thus the tradition of playing Holi started, which eventually used colours.
Greeting people on the occasion of Holi, several celebrities took to the social platform to post their messages.
Office of RG tweeted: "Wishing you & your family a very Happy Holi !"
Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said, "A very very happy holi"
Actress Huma Qureshi said, "Happy Holi!!"
Actor Rishi kapoor wrote on Twitter: "Play Safe Waterless Cool "Happy wala Holi" !!!!"
Cricketer Ajinkya Rahane said, "Happy Holi everyone. Enjoy every moment of it."
