India took strong stand against terror at SAARC meet : Rajnath Singh at Parliament
New Delhi, Aug 5 (IBNS) : Taking a strong stand against terror, India has called upon all SAARC nations to take harshest measures not only against the perpetrators, but also the supporters of terrorism, Home Minister Rajnath Singh told parliament on Friday.
The message was spread at the recent SAARC summit which Singh attended in Pakistan.
Singh also described Pakistan as the biggest violator of human rights.
Singh's speech at the SAARC summit was not broadcast by Pakistani media. "The way the Home Minister was treated" in Pakistan made even the opposition parties to rally behind the Government as Janata Dal United leader Sharad Yadav "strongly condemned" Pakistan not maintaining protocol. He said the "entire nation stands united" on this issue.
Singh's statement was discussed in the Rajya Sabha a day after he returned from his 24-hour visit to Islamabad.
"I urged all (SAARC) members that terrorists should not be glorified nor should they be patronized," he told the Rajya Sabha in reference to the death of Hizbul terrorist Burhan Wani and the subsequent violence in Kashmir that has left about 50 people dead.
India has deplored Pakistan for eulogising Wani and calling protest marches against his killing.
