J U molestation: Arrested students granted bail
Kolkata, Mar 24 (IBNS): Two Jadavpur University students, arrested in connection with the molestation of another student of Jadavpur University, have been granted bail on Monday midnight.
The arrested students, Gourab Masanta (3rd Year) of electrical engineering department and Ritamay Jana (4th Year) of chemical engineering department were released from the Jadavpur Police station after their lawyers obtained bail order for them from the court.
A student of JU's humanities department had lodged the molestation complaint with the Jadavpur police station. She alleged that she had been sexually molested by those two students on Friday night during a fest arranged by the Faculty of Engineering and Technology Students' Union (FETSU) at the University campus.
After interrogation, police arrested the two accused on Monday evening. The students were charged under bailable IPC sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint), 354-A (sexual harassment), 114 (abettor present when offence is committed) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman).
