Jammu and Kashmir: Adequate security in valley ahead of protest march
Srinagar, Feb 15 (IBNS): The Jammu and Kashmir government deployed heavy security forces in most parts of the Kashmir valley to prevent a separatist called protest march, police said on Wednesday.
Joint resistance leadership called for a march to Kulgam district of south Kashmir where four militants, two army soldiers and two civilians were killed during a gunfight between militants and the security forces on Monday.
Meanwhile, authorities have not put any restrictions in Srinagar city but a large number of security personnel were deployed to stop the separatist protest march.
“To prevent the protest call, we have made adequate deployment of security forces across state and in south Kashmir areas to maintain law and order in the valley," a senior police official said.
Since Monday, 17 persons, including nine terrorists, six soldiers and two civilians, were killed in three different gunfights in the valley.
Public and private transports, shops and other business establishments functioned normally across valley. However, life in south Kashmir districts of Kulgam, Anantnag and Shopian was adversely affected because of the tension following the separatists' call to march.
