Judge who led the Supreme Court bench that heard Yakub Memon's last appeal receives threatening letter
New Delhi, Aug 7 (IBNS) Justice Dipak Misra, who headed the Supreme Court bench that rejected 1993 blasts convict Yakub Memon's eleventh hour appeal against his hanging, has received a threatening letter, reports said.
The Delhi Police has started an investigation after the judge received an anonymous letter.
The letter, addressed to the judge, said: "irrespective of the protection you may avail, we will eliminate you."
The three judges rejected Memon's last appeal in an unprecedented hearing that took place in the Supreme Court in the middle of the night.
Justices Misra, Amitav Roy and Prafulla Pant spent two hours starting at about 3 am on July 30 before they ruled against stopping the execution, scheduled that day.
The judges said that Memon had ample time and opportunity to challenge his death sentence and that he had exhausted all legal options.
