Kanpur: Sealdah-Ajmer express train derails, 2 killed, several injured
Kanpur, Dec 28 (IBNS): Fifteen coaches of the Sealdah-Ajmer express train derailed close to Kanpur city in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday, leaving at least two people dead and 25 others injured, reports said,
Rescue operation is currently going on.
The mishap occurred at around 5:20 AM.
"Derailment of train no. 12987Sealdah-Ajmer Ex b/w Rura-Metha at about 5: 20 hrs,50 kms from Kanpur,ART & ARME arrived w/ Dy CTM Kanpur,"Ministry of Railways tweeted.
Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said he is personally monitoring the situation.
"Personally monitoring the situation in wake of unfortunate derailment of Sealdah-Ajmer express near Kanpur. Have directed senior officials to reach the site immediately," he tweeted.
The Minister said: "Immediate medical help being provided to the injured. Mobilized resources,directed all concerned to ensure rescue and relief."
He said investigation will carried out to know the exact cause of the mishap.
"Thorough investigation will be carried out to ascertain the cause," he said.
He said: "Ex gratia will be paid to injured . All passengers are being provided with necessary assistance to ensure least inconvenience.Doing our best."
The injured have been rushed to hospital for treatment.
"We r making alternate arrangements for Passengers to continue with their onward journey and are thus taken care of Helplines to offer info," the Minister said.
