Kolkata, Nov 6 (IBNS): West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday urged all Twitter users to change their display pictures to black on Nov. 8, the day when the Modi government will celebrate the one year completion of noteban, as a mark of protest.
The WB CM tweeted: "#Noteban is a disaster. On #Nov8BlackDay to protest against this scam that destroyed the economy, let us also change our Twitter DP to black
The central government, that had banned Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 notes on Nov. 8, 2016, will observe the same day this year as an Anti Black Money Day."
Banerjee, who has vehemently opposed the Bharatiya Janata Party-led central government on a number of issues in recent times, said her party Trinamool Congress will observe the day as a Black Day, which has received support from other opposition parties.
"We will observe ‘Kala Dibas’ (Black Day) in all blocks on November 8 to mark the anniversary of demonetisation. Rallies will be organised between 2-3 PM. Prepare slogans to reach out to people," she said earlier while addressing at the TMC's extended core committee meeting.
The TMC chief even called the demonetisation as the biggest scam.
"There must be an investigation into it. I had tweeted within 45 minutes of the announcement. Today Manmohan Singh, P Chidambaram, Arun Shourie are saying the same thing. Even eminent economists have spoken out against demonetisation," she said.
"What purpose did demonetisation serve? Did it weed out black money? No. Did it put an end to terrorism? No. Only one party converted its black money into white. They have also stashed away their black money abroad," the CM added,
Meanwhile, Union finance minister Arun Jaitley had announced the BJP will observe Nov 8 as an Anti Black Money Day.
Jaitley said : "We aim to make India an anti-corruption nation."
Jaitley said demonetisation was a huge step to make India a less cash economy.
He said top leaders of the party will travel across India to promote 'Anti-Black Money Day'.

In the post-demonetisation phase, the country had witnessed a huge protest from a collective Opposition at the national capital.
The combined Opposition, including arch-rivals like TMC-Left, SP-BSP, staged a protest outside the parliament against the noteban policy.
