Mehbooba Mufti meets PM Narendra Modi to discuss issue of Kashmir unrest
New Delhi, Aug 27 (IBNS) : As violence continued in Kashmir for 49 consecutive days, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the national capital on Saturday to discuss the toughest situation the valley has faced in recent times, reports said.
Turmoil goes unabated in Kashmir since July 8, the day Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani was killed in an encounter, with regular incidents of clashed between local people and security forces taking place, which have so far claimed 70 lives and left about 11,000 injured.
As a result, the valley has been under a blanket curfew and various restrictions, which have almost crippled the normal life.
Mufti's meeting with the PM, being held for the first time since July 8, takes place just after Home Minister Rajnath Singh's three-day visit to the valley.
Earlier this week, Modi had a meeting with a delegation of opposition parties from the state led by former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
Making an appeal for peace in the valley Modi asked the political parties to work together to find a "permanent and lasting" solution to the problem in the state.
At a press conference held in Srinagar on Thursday, Mufti defended the action of security forces and claimed that 95 per cent people are in favour of resolving the Kashmir issue through dialogues.
