
Modi meets political parties of J&K, assesses flood situation
Srinagar, Oct 23 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday met representatives and heads of Jammu & Kashmirs different political parties and discussed the post-flood situation of the state.
To celebrate Diwali with Kashmir’s flood affected people, Modi met political parties like Kashmir's Main Opposition party Peoples Democratic Party, Bhartiya Janata Party and ruling party National Conference. Media reported that he also had one-on-one meetings with different party heads.
It has been learnt that Modi discussed the post flood issue with political parties as leaders. In the meeting, different parties apparently told Modi that slow process in relief and rehabilitation is matter of concern. Sources in Raj Bhawan told IBNS that parties also raised the issue as winter in looming in coming months.
Sources further said that Modi was aware that tents are not good for the people who are residing in the relief camps.
Jammu and Kashmir chief Minister Omar Abdullah also met Modi and briefed him about post flood situation.
The Prime Minister had one to one meeting with CM during which Omar Abdullah while thanking the Prime Minister for visiting Valley and Ladakh on Diwali, briefed the Prime Minister about the gigantic challenge of reconstructing Jammu and Kashmir and rehabilitating the flood affected families. He also emphasized the need of early sanctioning of the comprehensive special rehabilitation programme recommended by the State Government to the Centre.
The Prime Minister also had a separate meeting with the top officers of the State in which Governor N. N. Vohra and Abdullah also participated.
The officers of the state Government presented detailed account of work done by the State Government on relief and rehabilitation front. They also identified the needs of the State for recovery, rehabilitation and reconstruction of the public infrastructure.
It is noteworthy to mention here that Congress party did not met Modi as they mentioned Modi’s visit to Kashmir on this Diwali is nothing but a poll-stunt. Earlier Modi visit Siachen Glacier where he met army jawans.
