Monsoon Session of the Parliament to begin today
New Delhi, July 18 (IBNS): The Monsoon Session of the Indian Parliament will commence from Monday.
The bill for the introduction of Goods and Services Tax (GST) remains a crucial matter of discussion during the session.
The Parliament is expected to witnesses fire works over numerous issues.
With the issue bill expected to come up again during the Monsoon Session of the Parliament, the Congress on Sunday said the party will support any bill that is for the people of the country.
"We will support any bill which is in support of people," Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad told media.
Another party leader Jyotiraditya Scindia told media: "We want a concrete draft proposal from the government on GST."
CPI-M leader Sitaram Yechury said the entire GST issue cannot be settled between the Congress and the BJP.
Speaking on the issue, the senior CPI-M leader told media: " it’s not a matter to be settled bilaterally between BJP and Congress. I have been requesting the government since two years to call an all-party meet to discuss the GST bill and listen to our concerns to form consensus."
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday urged all the political parties to keep national interests above any other considerations.
Modi said that important Bills including the GST Bill are to be taken up during the Monsoon session beginningtomorrow and expressed the hope that there would be meaningful discussions and outcomes during the session.
Referring to introduction of GST, the Prime Minister noted that the issue was not about which government would get the credit for introduction of GST but what was important is the passage of the Bill.
