Mumbai man, declared dead, wakes up before post mortem
Mumbai, Oct 12 (IBNS) In a 'stranger-than-fiction-tale', a man, declared dead by a doctor, wakes up in the morgue minutes before his post mortem, media reports said.
According to a mid-day report, the 45-year-old man, admitted to Sion hospital was mistakenly declared dead on Sunday after a doctor only checked his pulse.
The reports quoted police as saying that the doctor at fault immediately destroyed all records of the incident in an effort to cover up his mistake.
Around 11.15 am on Sunday, the Sion police received a call about a person lying unconscious at the ST bus depot at Sulochna Shetty Marg.
The unidentified man was picked up and rushed to Sion hospital where the chief medical officer immediately declared him dead after checking his pulse.
The dead body was covered with a white cloth and the doctor made an entry about the death in the casualty ward diary and a death intimation report was prepared.
As the body was being taken to the mortuary on a stretcher, the morgue staffers received a shock as they noticed the "dead man" breathing.
Just as the staffers went to inform the casualty ward about the startling development, the CMO rushed to the mortuary, tore up the death intimation report and even erased the entry that he made in the casualty ward diary.
The doctors then referred the patient to the ENT department.
