Narada sting: Former Bengal minister Madan Mitra appears before CBI for interrogation
Kolkata, Sep 13 (IBNS): Former West Bengal Transport and Sports Minister Madan Mitra on Wednesday appeared before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for interrogation in connection with the Narada sting operation, reports said.
After being summoned, Madan Mitra reached CBI office in south Kolkata's Nizam Palace at around 11:50 am.
According to CBI sources, the former Trinamool Congress (TMC) lawmaker is currently being quizzed.
Earlier on Monday, the Central probe agency served notice to Madan Mitra, asking him to appear before its investigators for interrogation by Friday (Sep 15).
Since Mar 14 last year, news portal- Narada News- released several sting operation footage, where TMC's leaders, ministers, MPs and MLAs were purportedly seen accepting bribes.
From the beginning, TMC leadership has been claiming that the sting footage was doctored and a conspiracy of the opposition parties.
After getting direction from the Calcutta High Court and Supreme Court, the CBI has started a probe into the case.
On April 17, the investigation agency registered an FIR in connection with the case under several non-bailable sections against 12 influential leaders, cabinet ministers, MLAs and MPs of TMC and one senior IPS officer, who were purportedly seen in the sting footage taking bribes from a reporter, who masqueraded as a businessman.
Besides CBI, the Enforcement Directorate (ED), has registered a money laundering case in the Narada sting and currently investigating the case.
