New Delhi: AAP vs LG case, SC refers petitions to Constitution Bench
New Delhi, Feb 16 (IBNS): Supreme Court referred a batch of petitions on Delhi Lieutenant Governor's (LGs) powers to a larger constitution bench, the media reported on Thursday.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had filed the petitions against the Delhi High Court verdict that said Delhi is not a State and the LG is its administrative head.
The apex court bench said that as legal aspects and the Constitution are involved, the matter should be looked into by a Constitution Bench, media reported.
In continuation of the tussle for administrative power between the AAP-led elected government of Delhi and the LG, on Feb 4, the AAP government told the apex court that it holds exclusive executive powers in relation to matters falling within the purview of the Legislative Assembly and neither the Centre nor the LG can encroach upon these, according to media reports.
