Ram Temple issue should be resolved outside the court : Supreme Court
New Delhi, Mar 21 (IBNS) ; The Supreme Court on Tuesday advised the concerned parties to resolve outside the court the longstanding dispute over Ram Mandir temple, saying judicial intervention will be initiated only if negotiations fail to break the deadlock, reports said.
"It is an issue of sentiment and religion. First sit together and sort out. Both sides have moderators and hold meeting," Chief Justice JS Khehar said, while hearing a petition by senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy.
Swamy said it is difficult to make both communities sit together, thus necessitating the judiciary to intervene.
The Chief Justice asked him to mention the case on March 31.
Swamy had sought an urgent hearing on Ayodhya dispute on the claims that “it is a sensitive matter”.
In 2010, the apex court had ordered a freeze on a judgment by the Allahabad High Court that Lord Ram was born under the central dome of the makeshift temple in Ayodhya and Hindus have the right to worship there.
The makeshift temple was erected after Kar Sevaks had pulled down the Babri masjid that had been there since the days of Mughal Emperor Babar.
Those believing the site to be the birthplace of Lord Ram claimed that the original structure was altered during the Mughal regime and made into a mosque.
