Rape accused army jawan commits suicide in Karbi Anglong
Guwahati, Apr 14 (IBNS) : A rape accused army jawan has committed suicide in Assam's Karbi Anglong district on Monday evening, police said on Tuesday.
The jawan was identified as Satyabir Dara, the prime accused in the recent rape incident of three women shot himself with his service rifle in Diphu and rushed to nearby hospital where doctor declared brought dead.
Dara hailing from Haryana and jawan of 8th Jat regiment was the prime accused in the recent rape incident.
A case was registered at Dokmoka police station against the some jawan for alleging rape of a women and two girls at Parkopahar area on April, during the search operation conducted by security forces.
The incident had led to widespread protests resulting 11 people including nine security personnel were injured in stone pelting and subsequently police firing on a mob on Apr 10.
Several organizations and civil societies of Karbi Anglong had protested against the rape incident and demanding to stern action against the accused persons.
Few organizations had called 24 hours Karbi Anglong district bandh protest against the rape incident recently.
