Sri Lankan refugee commits suicide by climbing electric pole
Chennai, Mar 7 (IBNS) Provoked by an official, a Sri Lankan refugee reportedly committed suicide after he 'climbed an electric pole and was electrocuted'.
The deceased, identified as Ravindran, was a refugee who came to India 26 years ago.
The incident took place after he requested an officer to not mark his son, who is hospitalised, absent as he will miss out on the day's wage.
The officer marked him absent and asked the man to climb the pole, which he did and moments later touched a high tension wire and died.
Post his death, angry protesters demanded action against the officer for driving the man to his death.
