Sushma Swaraj placed in FP's Global Thinkers list for twitter diplomacy, Modi congratulates
New Delhi, Dec 14 (IBNS) : External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has been named in the Global Thinkers List of 2016 compiled by Foreign Policy magazine for her novel way of settling things through twitter, reports said
She has been cited in the list ‘for fashioning a novel brand of Twitter diplomacy.
Swaraj, currently recuperating after a kidney transplant, was included in the ‘Decision-makers’ category alongside former US secretary of state Hillary Clinton, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, UN Secretary General Bank ki-Moon and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
“From evacuating Indians from Yemen to helping replace lost passports, Swaraj has earned the nickname “the common tweeple’s leader” for her aggressive use of Twitter,” the magazine said.
The minister, with 6.8 million followers on Twitter, has resolved wide range of issues from passport problems to rescuing overseas Indians trapped in adverse conditions.
"Proud" of her achievement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted congratulating Swaraj and called her ‘hardworking.’
"Very proud to see our hardworking EAM @SushmaSwaraj part of the @ForeignPolicy Global Thinkers list 2016! Congrats," Modi tweeted.
