Tamil Nadu: Court dismisses plea against Coca Cola and Pepsi in river water supply case
Chennai, Mar 2 (IBNS): Multinational beverage companies Coca-Cola and Pepsi will be able to lift water from Thamiravarani river in Tamil Nadu following the dismissal of two Public Interest Litigation cases by the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court, according to media reports.
In November last year, the Court had issued interim injunctions on the beverage companies, restraining the supply of water from the river to their factories.
Tirunelveli District Consumer Protection Association had filed a petition demanding a ban on supply of water from Thamirabarani river to the companies saying that the integrated drinking water projects that depend on the Thamiravarani river will suffer if water from the river is supplied to Pepsi and Coca Cola companies.
In February, the companies approached the Court saying that while many companies drew water from the river, the petitioner had filed a case against them only. media reported.
