Top Hizbul militant killed in Kashmir encounter
Srinagar, Mar 7 (IBNS) A top category Hizbul Mujahideen militant was killed in a gunfight with government forces in Kulgam district of south Kashmir Sunday evening, said officials.
Sources told IBNS that on specific information about the presence of some militants in Buchroo Village, Army, Police and counter insurgency forces cordoned off the area at around 7:30 p.m on Sunday.
Reports said as the joint team of forces intensified the searches; the militants hiding in the house opened fire on the search party ensuing a fierce gun battle.
In a retaliatory fire, the top ranked militant who was inside the house was killed by the security forces.
The slain militant has been identified as Dawood Ahmad Sheikh of Kaimoh town of Kulgam district.
Dawood, according to police sources, was a listed as category A+++ militant, and he was active since 2013.
“He was involved in killings of retired DSP, Bashir Ahmad of Ashmuji, Territorial Army man Gowhar Ahmad Matoo in Khudwani area of Kaimoh, Sarpanch and also involved in attacks on security forces,” said a senior police officer.
