US names ISIS chief recruiter in India as global terrorist
Washington, June 16 (IBNS): The US government on Thursday designated Mohammed Shafi Armar, the chief recruiter of Islamic State in India, as 'Specially Designated Global Terrorist' .
Armar has become the first India leader of militant group ISIS against whom the US has sponsored sanctions.
The US State Treasury Department has added his name while updating its list of Specially Designated Global Terrorists (SDGT).
Mohammed Shafi Armar is a native of Bhatkal in Karnataka.
"ARMAR, Mohammad Shafi (a.k.a. ARMAR, Mohammed Shafi; a.k.a. ARMAR, Safi; a.k.a. ARMAR, Shafi; a.k.a. "Anjan Bhai"; a.k.a. "Chote Maula"; a.k.a. "Yousouf al-Hindi"; a.k.a. "Yousuf-Al Hindi"; a.k.a. "Yusuf al-Hindi"), Syria; DOB 1989 to 1991; POB Bhatkal, Karnataka, India; Gender Male (individual) [SDGT]," the US State Treasury Department said in a statement as it added him to the list.
According to media reports, Mohammed Shafi Armar is responsible for creating several ISIS affiliated groups in India.
The statement issued by the US State Treasury Department further said: " the Department of State today designated ISIS members Mohammad Shafi Armar, Oussama Ahmad Atar, and Mohammed Isa Yousif Saqar Al Binali."
