Will not be cowed down : Smriti Irani dares Rahul Gandhi to get her arrested
Amethi, Sept 21 (IBNS) A day after Congress served her a legal notice over alleged land grabbing, Union Minister Smriti Irani dared Rahul Gandhi on his turf to send her to jail.
"Yesterday, an advocate came to my Delhi residence... He has given a notice that he will take legal action against me if I make any comment against Rahul Gandhi or the Nehru-Gandhi family in Amethi," Irani said at a public meeting at Amethi on Sunday.
"If Rahul or Congress have the courage, then let them put me behind bars," she said.
Irani alleged that "some people get disturbed" with her Amethi visits, but "I will not remain silent. My relationship with Amethi is not that of elections."
In the last Lok Sabha elections, Irani unsuccessfully contested against Rahul from Amethi, but narrowed down the margin that the Congress Vice President enjoyed in the previous election.
Despite the loss Irani has been a regular visitor to Amethi, making public contacts and launching attacks on the Congress on various issues.
Last month, she questioned the sale of land acquired from farmers at a subsidised rate for a bicycle factory in Amethi, to the Rajiv Gandhi Trust. This was followed by an Uttar Pradesh court order that the land be returned to the UP government.
On Saturday, the Congress served the legal notice and warned that if Irani did not stop making such allegations against the party", it would file civil and criminal cases against her.
