Lucknow, May 6 (IBNS) : A day after a state-sponsored survey revealed the names of cleanest and dirtiest cities in India, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Y,ogi Adityanath took to the street with a broom on Saturday to kick-start a move to make the state, languishing at the bottom of chart, cleaner, media reports said.
On Friday, the Swachh Bharat survey revealed that Indore, Bhopal,Visakhapatnam,Surat and Mysuru are the top-notch clean cities while India's most populous state Uttar Pradesh is one of the filthiest.
According to reports, Yogi Adityanath took up the cleanliness drive by sweeping the streets in a congested area of Lucknow to motivate the others to keep the cities clean.
He was accompanied by senior cabinet minister Suresh Khanna, few Government officials and 50 municipal workers.
According to the survey for 2017, which was conducted at the behest of the Union Urban Development Ministry, no Uttar Pradesh city, except Prime Minister Narendra Modi's constituency Varanasi, made it to the top 100. Varanasi was the saving grace for the state, being ranked at 32.
Soon after assuming office, Adityanath directed officials clean up their neighbourhoods and devote 100 hours every year for this purpose to change the face of Uttar Pradesh.
