5.8 earthquake hits Uttarakhand

New Delhi, Feb 7 (IBNS): An earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter Scale hit Uttarakhand on Monday as tremors were felt in several north Indian states including national capital New Delhi.

As per the IMD website, the epicentre of the quake was located at 30.5 degrees north latitude and 79.1 degrees east longitude and at a depth of 33 kms.

The earthquake hit the Rudraprayag region in the state at 10.33 pm.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted: "Spoke to officials & took stock of the situation in the wake of the earthquake felt in various parts of North India."

He said: "PMO is in touch with officials in Uttarakhand, which is the epicentre of the quake. I pray for everyone's safety & wellbeing."

No casualty has been reported so far.
