Assam-Nagaland border dispute toll touches 11
Guwahati, Aug 16 (IBNS): The death toll in Assam-Nagaland border violence rose to at least 11 on Saturday with recovery of nine fresh bodies from the violence-torn Uriamghat area of Assam, reports said.
Police said two bodies, identified as Joca Tirkey and Jiten Khalko, were recovered from Sukhanjan and Chainpur villages. Another body, identified as Nisa Ekka, along with six other unnamed bodies was also found near B-Sector of the Assam-Nagaland border region.
As many as 200 houses were set ablaze by the miscreants as over 10,000 people had left their homes taking sheltering in 10 different relief camps set up in the area.
At least seven villages, including Chetiagaon, Romanbasti, Chainpur, Ratanpur, Kamphur and Sukhanjan falling under Sector B of the Assam-Nagaland border, have been largely hit by the border violence, sources said.
However, the 12-hour night curfew (from 6 pm to 6 am) will continue in the troubled areas of Uriamghat, police said.
A central control room was opened jointly by the Assam Police, Nagaland Police and the Central Paramilitary Force (CRPF) to provide assistance to people in the troubled belts.
