Bangladesh: Kamaruzzamans plea rejected
Dhaka, Apr 6 (IBNS): The Bangladesh Supreme Court on Monday rejected Jamaat-e-Islami leader Muhammad Kamaruzzaman's plea for reviewing death penalty awarded to him for his crimes against humanity during the country's Liberation War in 1971.
The court upheld its previous verdict.
A four-member bench headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha rejected the leader's plea.
After the verdict, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam told The Daily Star that there is no legal bar for the government to execute Kamaruzzaman for his crimes against humanity following the SC judgement.
He will not seek mercy from president, a counsel for Kamaruzzaman told the Bangladesh daily.
