
Bengal must be proactive to get investments, says Ambassador of Norway

Kolkata, Oct 21 (IBNS): Nils Ragnar Kamsvag, Ambassador of Norway to India, said in Kolkata on Tuesday that West Bengal has to be more proactive to get investments.
He was speaking at a press conference organised at the Bengal Chamber in Kolkata.
Ambasador Kamsvag said that Norway's current investment in Bengal to be weak. He said: "Bengal must do something to make Norway interested to work in this state."
The press conference largely dealt with India-Norway bilateral relations.
India and Norway have partnerships in various sectors, which include research and education, maritime and marine sectors, health, culture.
Norway, one of the biggest investors in India, has around 100 companies working in this country.
In this context, Kamsvag said: "We have currently investments of USD 13-14 million in India."
One of the major sectors that the ambassador discussed in conference was the health sector.
"We are contributing 60 million dollars in health sectors in India," the ambassador said.
Kamsvag said that Norway is trying to introduce alternative techniques of child birth to assist the health sector.
He said: "We are working to initiate alternative techniques of child birth in five states - Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and Bihar."
Speaking about their strength in the maritime sector, Ambassador Kamsvag said: "Norway is the second biggest exporter of fish."
He said that Norway is eyeing more on hydroelectric power generation and sustainable energy..
He also announced that they are targeting the film industry in south India upfront for investments in films.
