Centre to conduct study on madrasas along International Border
New Delhi, Nov 13 (IBNS): The Centre will carry out a survey in states along the international border to check whether foreign nationals are employed in madrasas, media reports said.
The study is expected to begin with the states along the international border like West Bengal, Assam, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar and will gradually be extended to other regions.
A recent internal report of the home ministry pointed out that a majority of the madrasas in India are not spreading jehadi activity.
The report was based on madrasas run by four different Islamic schools - Deoband, Al Hadis, Jamiat and Barelvi, sources said.
The report only red-flagged madrasas with teachers from Bangladesh and Pakistan, saying there were examples of such madrasas actively radicalising young minds.
According to unofficial estimates there are around 35,000 Madrasas across the country with around 15 lakh students. Most of them remained unrecognised by the government so far, reports said.
