CLAT v/s AILET: Difference in Pattern, Difficulty Level and Cutoffs

CLAT and AILET are two of the most popular entrance exams for candidates aspiring to get an admission in one of the top law colleges in the country. Both the exams have more or less similar pattern. The exams are divided in different segments such as English, General Knowledge, Elementary Mathematics, Logical Reasoning, Legal Aptitude and Current Affairs.

CLAT:

In Common Law Admission Test, popularly known as CLAT, there are 200 questions in total. Duration for the exam is 2 hours. The exam is held in online mode i.e. via computer.

AILET:

The exam has a total of 150 questions. Duration of the exam is one and a half hours. The examination is paper based, using pen and paper.

CLAT or AILET: Which isTougher to Crack?

As compared to CLAT, AILET gets more number of applications per seat for appearing in entrance exams.As per stats, CLAT 2016 had 39,468 registrations for a total of 2,670 seats in BA LLB (Hons.) course. On the other hand 17,200 candidates had registered for AILET 2016 appearing to fill a total of 83 seats.

In case of CLAT, 14 aspirants were competing for a seat whereas, a total of 207 aspirants were competing for one seat. Most law aspirants sit for both the exams.

Which Exam CLAT or AILET Opens Better Career Prospects?

Without any doubt law aspirants should fill for both the entrance exams. AILET needs more rigorous preparation as this exam is directed towards only NLU Delhi. CLAT has several NLU’s which offer admission through this exam and therefore the probability for getting a seat through the same becomes higher.

Cut Offs for CLAT and AILET

Admission in NLU Delhi is only through AILET and rest of the NLU’s in the country consider CLAT scores. In the year 2016 students from general category who got 106 marks out of 150 in their AILET exam got admission in the BA LLB course offered by NLU Delhi. Students falling in the categories of Schedule cast and Schedule tribe needed 85 marks and 83 marks respectively to clear the admission cut off. Along with this candidates applying under Persons with Disability (PwD) category required a score of 78 marks and Kashmiri Migrants required a minimum of 76 marks for getting admission in BA LLB course at NLU Delhi. Cut offs for AILET 2016 went high as compared to 2015 cut offs when general category needed 98 marks, Scheduled Tribe needed 75 marks, 72 marks for Schedule Tribe and 85 marks for persons with disability.

For CLAT entrance every NLU has its own cut off. The cutoff is known to be lesser than that of AILET.
