Come to Delhi, I will give space : Kejriwal's offer to FTII students
New Delhi, Aug 19 (IBNS) Hours after the midnight arrest of protesting students at Pune's Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday asked the students to come to Delhi and run their classes.
Through a series of tweets Kejriwal expressed his distress over the arrest of five students and made the unusual offer.
"Am shocked to hear whats gng on at FTII. An internationally reputed institute being systematically destroyed by govt's wrong decisions," he said.
"My offer to FTII students- Del govt can provide u temp space in Del. Run ur classes here till central govt agrees."
"If finally, central govt doesn't agree, we'll convert this place into full fledged institute n students can continue studying here only," Kejriwal said.
Five FTII students were arrested from campus after midnight on Tuesday and about a dozen more were charged as the standoff between students and authorities over centre's choice of the institute's chief escalated to a new height.
At around 1.30 am, the students were arrested and taken to the police station following a complaint by the institute's director Prashant Pathrabe.
They will be produced in court on Wednesday.
