ED raids on Digambar Kamat's residence and offices in Goa

by IBNS 20 Aug 2015, 06:41 am

Panaji, Aug 20 (IBNS) Enforcement Directorate officials are conducting raids on the residence and offices of former Goa Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, implicated in the Louis Berger bribery scandal, media reports said.

The raids started about 7 am at 5 different locations, including Margaon, where Kamat lives.

The raids come a day after a local court granted anticipatory bail to Kamat, a Congress lawmaker,  accused of taking Rs.s. 1.2 crore as bribes from the US firm to favour them in a water and sewage project.

The court granted bail on technical grounds, stating that the investigating officer had not spelt out reasons as to what was the need to arrest him, especially as  Kamat was not a flight risk and was appearing before the police for questioning.

The court also rejected Kamat's allegation that it was a case of political vendetta.

Another former minister, Churchill Alemao, has already been arrested for his alleged role in the bribery scandal.
