England elect to bat first, lose four wickets
Mohali, Nov 26 (IBNS): Electing to bat first after winning the coin toss, the English team lost four quick wickets, tottering at 92 at lunch on the first day of the third Test match against India on Saturday.
England had a brisk opening stand of 32 runs before Hameed departed for 9, gloving one to Ajinkya Rahane off Umesh Yadav.
Joe Root (15) was the next to follow as he tried to work a ball from Jayant Yadav of the back foot.
Root was adjudged LBW.
English skipper, Cook was given a couple of reprieve, one of them by Ashwin, who later picked him with his first ball as he had the southpaw caught behind.
Struggling at 51 for the loss of three wickets, Moeen Ali and Jonny Bairstow added 36 runs for the fourth wicket before the former dismissal.
Ali (16) failed to keep a short ball from Shami down, scooping it for Murali Vijay to complete a well adjudged catch.
