Facebook, Instagram goes down for 40 mins
New York, Jan 27 (IBNS): Millions of netiznes could not access social network site Facebook on Tuesday for quite sometime before it was brought back to normal service later.
In several nations, netizens reportedly faced troubles in accessing photo-sharing app Instagram.
Facebook has said it believed it was their engineers who had caused the trouble.
"Earlier this evening many people had trouble accessing Facebook and Instagram," a spokeswoman told the BBC.
"This was not the result of a third-party attack but instead occurred after we introduced a change that affected our configuration system,"she said.
"We moved quickly to fix the problem, and both services are back to 100% for everyone," she said.
The site remained inaccessible for nearly 40 minutes.
A hacker group called Lizard Squad has also claimed responsibility for the incident as it tweeted: "More to come soon. Side note: We're still organizing the @MAS email dump, stay tuned for that."
"Facebook, Instagram, Tinder, AIM, Hipchat #offline #LizardSquad," it said.
