Four workers burnt alive in Chennai plastic godown fire
Chennai, Aug 21 (IBNS): At least four workers were burnt alive in a major fire that broke out at a scrap plastic godown in Tamil Nadus Tiruvallur district late Wednesday night.
According to state fire and rescue department officials, as many as 17 fire tenders and four water tankers from Chennai Metro Water were deployed at the fire-ravaged spot. The thick smoke had engulfed at least to a kilometre away.
The four victims who were burnt alive were trapped in a small room in the middle of a near 100-foot-long yard. They were found charred beyond recognition, reports said.
The fire brigade officials reached the spot within ten minutes of the incident. They could rescue a few people including the watchman of the godown.
A car parked in the adjoining compound was also completely gutted in the fire while a few other vehicles in the vicinity were successfully retrieved by the rescue teams.
