Gajendra Chauhan visits FTII for the first time, students protest
Pune, Jan 7 (IBNS) For the first time since his selection as Chairman, Gajendra Chauhan, the man, whose appointment sparked off widespread rage among students, visited the prestigious Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune, reports said.
However, he was greeted with jeers and 'Go back' slogans chanted by the agitating students, some of them reportedly lathicharged and detained by police.
Chauhan is supposed to spend the day in the institute holding meetings with officials.
Students and a section of the people, including celebrities are opposed against the appointment of Chauhan, a small time actor, and see in the government's decision a political motive.
Chauhan, who campaigned for the BJP ahead of the national election and has been a party member since 2004, has said his political views will not influence his policy or decisions for the film institute.
For months after he was selected as chair, students on campus went on strike to demand his removal.
