H-1B Visa row: Mamata urges government to protect Indian techies
Kolkata, Jan 2 (IBNS): Sounding alert over the prevailing H-1B Visa (non-immigrant) in US, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has urged the government to protect the interest of Indian I-T techies, who face a trouble of being replaced by their American counterparts after a legislation has been introduced by the Trump administration.
"News about H-1B visas is concerning. We must protect our IT companies and professionals and give them full support,' her tweet read.
Hailing the Indian professionals as the best, she said, "India is proud of the world-class talent of its IT techies. It is our duty to secure their interests."
Under the newly introduced legislation, the minimum wage for a H-1B visa holder has been increased to 1,30,000 US Dollar, as compared to the previous 60,000 US Dollar.
