Hurriyat won't allow Kashmir land for settlement of ex-servicemen : Geelani
Srinagar, Aug 18 (IBNS) Hardline Hurriyat Conference faction leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani has opposed any government plan to get ex-servicemen or their children settled in Jammu and Kashmir.
“ Jammu Kashmir is an internationally accepted disputed territory and the decision regarding its future is still pending. So, allotting of land to any army man or any citizen of India on this disputed land is a clear violation of the international rules and it has no constitutional or moral justification,” Geelani said on Monday.
The veteran leader claimed in a statement that Jammu & Kashmir is not any legal part of Indian like Bihar, UP or Maharashtra and its status is totally different and the government doesn't have the authority to amend the state constitution.
He warned that allotting of land to the retired army personnel in Jammu & Kashmir will have serious consequences as the people of the state will come on roads to protest such a move.
Geelani said the Hurriyat conference has called an important meeting of its advisory council (Majlish Shoora) on July 22 on this "serious and vital issue".
A spokesman of the organisation said : "Hurriyat conference has decided to consult law experts and people related to every walk of life. It has agreed to mobilize public consensus in this regard. Hurriyat has also appealed to the world bodies to play their role in stopping India from fiddling with the disputed nature of Jammu & Kashmir."
