Indrani used daughter Sheena's phone to impersonate her after murder
Mumbai, Aug 28 (IBNS) Indrani Mukerjea, co-founder of INX media group, used her daughter Sheena Bora's phone for a year after her murder and sent texts and mails to give the impression that she was alive, media reports quoted police as saying.
After an eight-hour interrogation on Thursday, Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria confirmed that Indrani Mukherjee, married to TV baron Peter Mukerjea, impersonated her daughter to make it appear that she was alive and living in the US.
Police said among the texts Indrani had sent was one to Sheena's boyfriend and step-brother Rahul Mukerjea, Peter Mukerjea's son from an earlier marriage. The message sought a break-up in their relationship.
Indrani had also used her daughter's phone to end a tenancy agreement and send a resignation letter on Sheena's behalf.
The Mumbai top cop said : "The lady accused sent letter to a person to sign it. That person forged Sheena's signature on those letters and sent it."
Sheena was strangled in a moving car on April 24, 2012, allegedly by Indrani's ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna, with Indrani and her driver Shyam Rai also in the vehicles. Her body was dumped in a forest area of Raigad, about 84 km from Mumbail.
Indrani used to tell relatives and acquaintances that Sheena had gone to the US for studies and was not interested in returning to India.
A photo posted on Facebook by Indrani Mukerjea on one of Sheena's birthdays, after her death, showed her holidaying in Goa.
